The Mona Ranch is located in the Bear Lodge Mountains of Wyoming, just north of the Black Hills National Forest.  We are about 22 miles northeast of Hulett, WY and about 35 miles west of Belle Fourche, SD, just off of the Mona County Road.  We are about 14 miles from Wyoming Highway 24.

Our residence is at the location of the last "Mona Store" and post office.  The store was owned and operated by Judy's Grandparents, Wick and Margaret Carr until about 1942 when it was permanently closed.  Prior to its last location, the store and post office was located in three other locations in this area.  One location was in the Black Hills National Forest near Apple Tree Point, another was at the "Simms Place" about one half mile from us, and the other was just a quarter mile south of us at Mona, WY.

The Ranch we live on today was part of land acquired from Dr. Barrett, a dentist of the time near the turn of the century.  He operated a dentist office here in the old two story house that has been removed and replaced with the present residence.  Other land on the ranch was homesteaded by Judy's great grandparents.  There are many great stories and tales about the hardships of making a living on a ranch during the past century.

Judy's Grandmother, Margaret Carr, wrote two very interesting books on the life and times of her family and raising a family in hard times,   "As I Remember" and "Buffalo Basin".
